There are many options in moving home or office. The options will depend upon your needs and budget. Many moving company offers these different relocation options.

Do-it-Yourself

This is advisable if you have ample time to pack your household items and furniture. If you are pressed for time it will be stressful for you. Packing your things requires a lot of planning and preparation so that unpacking will be a breeze.

It is advisable to pack per room and label those boxes. Also if you have ample time pack stuff that you seldom use first and the ones you always use last. Cover breakable items with old newspapers and label the box appropriately to avoid breakage.

Schedule a moving van for rent two to four weeks prior to the move. Don’t forget to schedule utility transfer in advance too.

Shop around for the best deal for renting a moving van on the internet early so you can allot appropriate budget for that. Trucks for rent on your relocation will differ in rates depending on your destination, mileage and the size of the truck you need. It is also important to know that the company has a nearest outlet in the area where you be relocated in order for you to be able to return the rented truck easier. Find out the type of insurance the company offers and don’t be fooled by a cheaper rate if the insurance is not that great.

You pack they move

Another way to do it is packing it yourself and let the professional do the actual move. This option is advisable for those who have plenty of time to pack or on a tight budget to hire a full-service. Just shop around for the best offers on the net and scrutinize the benefits. There are companies that will do an online estimate so will have an idea on what type of truck you need based on the size of your house. Some companies will also survey your house for a more accurate estimate. Don’t forget as well to check the insurance premiums of these companies. Furniture removal companies also have rules and guidelines for packing, so remember to check it before packing your items. Make a list of all your items before packing them, removal companies will also need the list.

Full-service
A full service move is advisable if you don’t have enough time to pack and you have enough money to spend. Just like what I mentioned above companies will have to visit your house and check each room with you to be able to give you an estimate. It also best to have a list of the things that you will bring with you and show it to the surveyor so that the estimate will not include furniture items that you will bring.

Now that you know your options one your move it is time to determine which one suits your needs. It is advisable to call the moving company at least four weeks before the move if it is out of the city and at least two weeks if within the city.

Safety First on Choosing Ladders November 14, 2008

Before buying anything it is important to shop around for information on quality, price, and uses. It is very to easy to get the first needed item that you see but buying something is also like investing. Sometimes cheap items are not so cheap at all when you consider things like quality. It is better to purchase something more expensive that will be able to use that item for a long time than to buy the shoddy counterpart that you can only use a few times.

A ladder is something that may seem insignificant for everyone but if you are going to consider your safety you have to think twice before paying for a ladder in a rush. There are a few important facts to have to know when acquiring a ladder. First determine what will be your likely usage for the item, most probably for home repair and improvement, then who will likely use it and lastly how high do you want it to go.

Types of Ladders:
There are many types of ladders such as industrial, commercial and household type of ladders. These ladders will depend on the weight load capacity. For home use it will be the household types. There are also many kinds of ladder depending on the usage. Below are some of the kinds of ladders which can be used for simple home repair and improvement.

mobilegif2Platform Step Ladder.
A platform step ladder gives an ample platform for the user and any tools. A platform ladder opens like a scissor at the bottom which gives more stability for those working alone. This kind of ladder has an adjustable height and has a locking mechanism to hold the platform in place.

Extension Ladder
An extension ladder is a one sided ladder which can be extended into various heights. Some extension ladders can have 3 parts which can be extended up to 10 meters. An extension ladder doesn’t have the stability that a platform step ladder can offer but it can reach higher that the platform step ladder.

A combination ladder combines the stability a platform step ladder can do and can also be configured as an extension ladder.

These types of ladders have its advantages and disadvantages, I would recommend using a platform step ladder or a combination ladder for home use because of its safety features.

Moving Home for the First Time November 13, 2008

1084630_question_mark_1First-time home movers will find it overwhelming on where to start with packing the huge amount of stuff accumulated on years of staying in one home. I have moved many times in my life and moving is still a burden to do. But with all those many times I have moved homes I have acquired some sort-of systematic ways of doing it.

Below are some tips that you may find useful on packing and unpacking your things.

First thing to do and easiest is to select old stuff that you will not bring with you on your move and dispose it. This will lessen the stuff that you will have to move and it will remove unnecessary clutter. On your selection process you will find the urge not to unpack those old boxes hidden in the attic unopened but you will have to rummage even on those old boxes in order for you to bring only what is important. On my part, I have a general rule to myself which is to know when was the last time a certain item was used. If it was ages ago then let it go. This is only applicable to used clothes, broken toys, broken appliances, old linens, etc.

Then identify items that you seldom use but you will have to bring with you on your move. Segregate those items into rooms where it belong: bathroom, kitchen, master’s bedroom, kid’s room, attic, garage, etc. Then put them in color-coded boxes, red for the kitchen, green for the kid’s room, blue for the master’s bedroom, yellow for the bathroom. Of course the color will depend on you as long as you assign one color per room. Pack items in the cabinet that you will not use during the course of your move. This will depend on how early you will start packing. If you have started packing a month before the move leave a few linens out of the box.

When packing breakable items wrap them individually on newspapers or brown papers. Store the breakable items in smaller boxes and arrange them in such a way that the most fragile are at the top. Put crumpled newspapers in between gaps in the box to avoid movement of the fragile items.

Remove clothes from your drawers and cabinets to lessen the weight of those cabinets. Put those clothing on luggage bags. Lock your cabinet doors and drawers or put ropes around the cabinets to keep those drawers and doors closed. Make sure to place protective cartons on the corners of your cabinet between the surface of your furniture and the rope to avoid scratches from the rope.

Wrap your furniture in bubble wrap or cartons to avoid damage during the course of the move.

Put cleaning materials and unpacking materials such as scissors in one bag so you can easily get hold of it when you are ready to unpack.

When you are ready to unpack, unpack first the items that you will need immediately such as kitchen items, dining items. The last items that you should unpack are those that you packed first, remember those items are the ones you rarely use and might even end up unpacked in the storage room.

All these tips sounds easy to do if you have time to do it, but if you prefer for the professionals to do it for you there are many furniture removals company to do it for you.

Frugal Lifestyle for a Life Free from Debt November 11, 2008

1071315_savings_4Many people are living beyond their means and credit is a solution for those expenses that cannot be afforded. A credit card can be an ally or a foe. An ally for those times when you really need it and a foe for those times when you don’t need it but you think you do. It is very easy to purchase items on every whim but it is hard to keep those impulses at bay when the purchases made six months ago are still being paid. This is where people with this kind of lifestyle and thinking eventually are in debt until they retire or worse bankrupt.

That is why it is important to change financial attitude early on. There are many benefits in understanding the limitations and capabilities of your finances and one of them is peace of mind. Having peace of mind will reap a lot of benefits in the long run. Having peace of mind can have an effect in work performance and may eventually lead to promotion and more financial stability. Having peace of mind will also improve personal relationship which is something money can’t buy.

Dramatic change in lifestyle is painstakingly hard and no one says it is the other way around. As long as there is determination to change and the perseverance to do what is necessary no one will go the wrong way.

1071930_check_book_and_statementFirst thing to do is to understand your finances. Understanding your finances will give awareness on the limitations and capabilities your income has to offer. Next is allotting strict budget on expenses. Lastly, follow the budget allotted. It sounds so simple but the hard part of it all is the ability to maintain this state of mind of following the budget and not losing track of it.

Understanding finances mean monitoring how much is being spent on grocery, clothing, entertainment, utilities, transportation, insurance, services, etc. Note down every single penny on everything spent for a month. Then categorize expenses accordingly and find out the total spent on each category. Find out how much is the daily spent for all the expenses. If the daily spend is more than the daily income then there is serious budgeting to do. Find out if there are expenses that are extravagant and lessen the budget on those expenses for next month.

For the first few months of following the budget always check the budget list to keep track of it and to check if the expenses so far are still within in.

For those who are already in debt, consider debt consolidation. In debt consolidation, paying off debt is easy because of the convenience of paying multiple debts into single payment every month. This will make budgeting much easier for those who want to practice a frugal life.
